Another crazy week has gone by in a flash (and I’m not even saying that because I’ve been ill all week and am looking forward to just getting better eh…).
I’ll be brief today as I make the most of the little time I have before the next action-packed week starts off.
If you didn’t notice, you were probably on holiday or living in a cave : this week’s main news was when OK Go decided to leave EMI, in an amicable split to launch their new label “Paracadute”.
Kudos to them for the move and for the best “organisational announcement” to date!
Media coverage of the sudden news was extensive and once again highlighted the growing (unreconcilable?) differences between major labels and artists on how they want to raise awareness around their band, how they want to sell (or not) their content and which business model they think is best suited to their art and profile.
Between that and their latest video flying around the planet at least a dozen times since it was posted online (7 million views in 1 week and #1 most viewed video on Youtube in all categories in all big countries – you can’t beat it, can you?)…it would be little to say that OK Go are not living exciting times…
…the most exciting assuredly being what lies in the future for them and how they will decide to move forward, now that they have all the long-dreamed freedom to do so.
Over in the UK, besides working very hard for her upcoming A-levels, Joni Fuller played an Amnesty Fundraising Gig on Saturday 13th March at the Gregson Centre, Lancaster, where she was headlining to great applause once again.
She was also invited by BBC Lancs into their studios to record a session of 3 live tracks + interview which will be broadcast on the 25th March at 8pm. BBC Lancs are being very supportive of Joni and have been regularly playing her song “Paper Cuts” to niche and mainstream audiences alike.
And it’s not all…! Joni is to be featured in an ‘Intimate Afternoon’ live radio session on BBC Radio Lancs on May 7th. For those of you who will be up North and want to be in the audience, watch out for updates on Joni’s facebook fan page to win tickets.
After celebrating in style the release of her 1st solo album on March 3rd, Emilie Chick has been rehearsing steadily for her industry showcase this coming monday (tomorrow!) at Le Réservoir, in Paris. We only have a couple of places left on the list if you are interested, please get in touch asap.
For those of you who are coming, she will be on after Jason Edwards, at 8pm sharp – be there or be square !
That’s it for the moment. It’s a great place to be in when all the artists you work with and support are gathering real support and awareness. As OK Go said this week : “Onwards and Upwards“….
